NJ ASSESSMENT OF SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE (NJ ASK)

Test administration dates for the Spring 2003 NJ ASK3 and NJ ASK4 are scheduled for
May 20, 2003, through May 23, 2003, with make-up testing the following week.

ESPA is now NJ ASK

The NJ ASK4 program will replace the Elementary School Proficiency Assessment (ESPA) previously administered to NJ fourth graders. The NJ ASK3 launches New Jersey's effort to assess third graders and continues the state's support of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.

The testing times and test formats will be similar to ESPA's, including calculator use and open-ended items for mathematics, and open-ended items and writing tasks for language arts literacy (LAL) at both grade levels. Information will be available soon on the updated Directory of Test Specifications and Parent/Student/Teacher Information Booklets.

Attention School Administrators and District Test Coordinators

The New Jersey Department of Education is pleased to partner with ETS for the Spring 2003 New Jersey Assessment of Skills and Knowledge. ETS's contact information for the NJ program will be sent to the District Test Coordinators via regular mail within the next two weeks. Schools are encouraged to work closely with their District Test Coordinators as their primary points of contact for this assessment program.

We encourage you to bookmark this site and check back frequently for updated information.
